Shifting Gears: Women Returning to Work

Friday June 20–Sunday, June 22, 2014

Some women take breaks in their careers, caring for family or others requiring additional support. Others may be repositioning and need to consider options such as portfolio careers or self-employment, seeking new ways to move forward effectively in their professional and personal lives. If you are dealing with any of the above situations, and you want to take “you” time to work on them thoroughly, then this two-day workshop is for you. People are moving from career to career, faster and faster, and so those picking up speed or switching fields are welcome as well.

Located on the beautiful Bryn Mawr campus, the Summer Career Institute is designed to take you away from the normal course of your life so you can reflect and prepare strategically. We will explore personality preferences, areas of skills and interests, trends in the workplace and brand, and we will assist you in designing a plan for your next steps. As a participant you will work closely with other attendees, forming a community in the process. Monthly calls for discussion and shared learning will follow as well.

Our weekend will include career work on campus, time with other alumnae who have met this challenge, BMC speakers, and a chance for reflection as well as a bit of fun. Finally, we will encourage partnerships with other participants to foster action to accomplish your goals following the retreat. A comprehensive notebook of career material will be provided.

Participants will be asked to complete materials before the workshop, which include the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, a values assessment, and several reflective exercises. The deadline for this work will be Friday, June 6.

You will receive pre-workshop "homework" details after you register. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Cori Ashworth, the director of alumnae career engagement, at 610-526-5230 for additional information. Enrollment will be capped at 25 participants, so early registration is suggested.
