New Programs
- Michaile Rainey (Career Development Office), Catherine Ormerod (NELI Program), Stephanie Lerner (CEO) and Ellie Esmond (CEO) will launch the LEAP Leadership in Action program in the fall – a shadowing program that will match LEAP participants with local professionals in leadership positions for a 3-5 day externship experience.
- The Civic Engagement Office and the Bryn Mawr-Haverford Department of Education have been invited to partner with Parkway West High School. This high school is a magnet school in the Philadelphia School District and is unique in that all of its 400 students are part of the Urban Education Academy, one of the Philadelphia Academies' programs.
- A non-credit course in Effective Grantsmanship will be taught by Margie Dubrow during the fall semester.
- ACLAMO, a community-based organization in Norristown, has invited the Civic Engagement Office to partner with them on a grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation that focuses on a Latina breast health initiative. The Civic Engagement Office plans to connect students with this initiative through Praxis courses and community-based work study placements. Please contact Ruth Strickland for information about this project. Students must speak Spanish to participate.

- Vanessa Christman, Program Coordinator or the Office of Intercultural Affairs, will be the LEAP 2008-2009 Cohort Coordinator.
- Kathleen McCladdie, who had been Principal of Overbrook Elementary, is the new principal at Parkway West.
- Professors Jody Cohen and Alice Lesnick received grants from the Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development (PHENND) to develop Praxis projects with the Philadelphia School District Senior Projects Initiative. They have planned to implement these projects at Parkway West during the fall semester through the Praxis component of two courses: Schools in American Cities and Literacies and Education.
- Professor Judy Porter co-authored an article, Service-Learning with a Food Stamp Enrollment Campaign: Community and Student Benefits, which was published in the Spring 2008 issue of the Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning.
