VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

WHAT: The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program recruits volunteers to work with CADCOM, an agency in Norristown, PA with a mission "to mobilize the human and financial resources of Montgomery County by initiating, developing and administering community and economic development programs designed to provide the tools needed to achieve self-sufficiency."

WHERE: CPIA has been partnering with CADCOM since 2004 to help provide free tax-services to Norristown residents through the IRS-sponsored EITC-VITA program.

WHEN: Bryn Mawr College volunteers complete a tax law training program over winter break and begin volunteering weekly in late-January and continue through mid-April.

HOW: In 2011-12, the VITA Program had more than 40 active Bryn Mawr volunteers and brought more than $1 million dollars in tax returns and savings to the community members of Norristown and Montgomery County.
