How to Apply for Financial Aid

 

2009-2010 For U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents:  Early Decision, Regular Decision, Transfer and McBride Students

Please note deadlines for particular programs in the right hand column of the webpage.  Most pertinent forms are available for download at:  www.brynmawr.edu/financialaid/forms.

Please note that McBride Students 24 and older do not need to supply parent information.  Married students must provide spousal information.

2009-2010 CSS PROFILE from the College Board (click here)

To be completed by the custodial parent and applicant.  Click on the link below to file the PROFILE with the College Board.  Use Bryn Mawr College’s PROFILE code number: 2049.  Follow instructions provided on the College Board website link below.

2009-2010 CSS Noncustodial PROFILE from the College Board (click here)

Families that are not together, separated, divorced or never married must submit information from both biological parents and stepparents. Noncustodial parents and stepparents are required to complete and submit this form with the College Board.  Follow instructions provided on the College Board website link below. You will be notified of the noncustodial profile requirements when you register and complete the profile application.

2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (click here)

To be completed by the custodial parent and applicant.  Click on the link below to file the FAFSA with the U.S. Department of Education.  Use Bryn Mawr College’s Federal ID code number:  003237.   Before beginning the on-line FAFSA, both the applicant and the custodial parent should apply for a U.S. Department of Education Personal Identification Number (PIN) by visiting www.pin.ed.gov. With the PIN, the applicant and the parent can electronically sign the on-line FAFSA, a step necessary to expedite the process.  Do not attempt to complete the 2009-2010 FAFSA before January 1, 2009.

Parents', Stepparents’ and Applicant's 2008 Federal Income Tax Returns and W-2 Forms:  Completion of the CSS PROFILE will prompt the College Scholarship Service to send you information about how to use the IDOC (Institutional Documentation Service) to submit required federal income tax returns, and other forms and documentation as indicated.   Submit signed photocopies of all 2008 federal (no state) income tax returns, both business and personal, including all W-2 forms, statements, attachments and schedules for both custodial and noncustodial parents, stepparents and applicant.

What are the definitions of custodial and noncustodial parent?

Please note that for the purposes of the U.S. Department of Education and Bryn Mawr College institutional financial aid, the following definitions of “parent or legal guardian” are necessary:  Custodial Parent:  Parent within whose household the student resides more than 50 percent of the current year.  Noncustodial Parent:  Parent within whose household the student resides less than 50 percent of the current year.
