Willemijn Don received her PhD from New York University with a dissertation entitled Godless Saints, Godly Savants: Intellectuals and Religious Experience in the Fin-de-Siècle Novel. Her research focuses on representations of religious experience such as mystical experiences, conversion and apostasy, during a period of sharp oppositions between secularism and religiosity in nineteenth-century France. She is currently preparing an article on religious discourse in the portrayal of female suffering.
She received an MA in French literature from Bryn Mawr College, and attended the Avignon program as well.
