“The Best Thing in a Girl’s Life”: Early Women’s Colleges in Fiction and Fact

Credits

"The Best Thing in a Girl's Life": Early Women's Colleges in Fiction and Fact, appeared in the Rare Book Room in Canaday Library, Bryn Mawr College during the Spring of 2009. It was curated by Marianne Hansen, Curator / Academic Liaison for Rare Books and Manuscripts. Research assistants were Marybeth Matlack and Lavanya Jayakar, who spent many hours poring through scrapbooks and letters home stored in the Archives - and quite a bit of time actually reading the "college girl" novels. We thank Eric Pumroy for his advice and counsel, and Barbara Ward Grubb for her expert assistance in designing, producing, and installing the show. And we must also thank the anonymous friend who loaned the "Bryn Mawr Candy" box as well as a beautiful copy of Miss Pat at School.
