Posse at Bryn Mawr

Each year, Bryn Mawr College selects 10 Posse scholars from two cities: Boston and Houston.

Boston has been a partner city since 2000. In 2012, Bryn Mawr became the first women's institution to recruit a STEM Posse, bringing 10 Boston-area students intending to major in STEM fields as a cohort to the College annually.

We have been welcoming Houston Posse cohorts since 2012.

The Posse Foundation is a national initiative with chapters in Atlanta, the Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York City and Washington, D.C.

Posse has identified, recruited and trained 6,264 public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential to become Posse Scholars. Since 1989, these students — many of whom might have been overlooked by traditional college selection processes — have been receiving four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships from Posse’s partner institutions of higher education. Most important, Posse Scholars persist and graduate at a rate of 90 percent and make a visible difference on campus and throughout their professional careers.

The concept of a Posse works for both students and college campuses, and is rooted in the belief that a small, diverse group of talented students — a Posse — carefully selected and trained, can serve as a catalyst for increased individual and community development. As the United States becomes an increasingly multicultural society, Posse believes that the leaders of this new century should reflect the country’s rich demographic mix, and that the key to a promising future for our nation rests on the ability of strong leaders from diverse backgrounds to develop consensus solutions to complex social problems. One of the primary aims of the Posse Program is to train these leaders of tomorrow.

The following faculty and staff members currently serve as Posse mentors:

  • Class of 2023: Nate Wright (Houston) and Anjali Thapar (Boston)
  • Class of 2024: Agnes Peysson-Zeiss (Houston) and Tamara Davis (Boston)
  • Class of 2025: Dee Matthews (Houston) and Amy Myers (Boston)
  • Class of 2026: Joel Schlosser (Houston) and Joi Dallas (Boston)
