Learning and Professional Development Opportunities

To advance equity and belonging for all who study and work at Bryn Mawr requires action and learning:

  • About structures and practices that exclude, even inadvertently—and how to interrupt and change those practices
  • About histories that shape our perspectives, and the language in which we express them
  • About assumptions that we all make about identities
  • About communicating across differences
  • About how to listen more effectively.

Each individual and department at Bryn Mawr is responsible for and expected to engage in at least one learning opportunity each semester related to the advancement of equity and belonging. To support varied needs and interests, the College provides multiple opportunities. Below you will find links to campus events and ongoing programs; resources for faculty and staff; and a selection of approaches that administrative departments have taken to learn, to examine practices, and to work toward the goal of creating a Bryn Mawr in which all can feel a sense of belonging.

Faculty Support

The Provost's Office provides faculty support events covering a number of areas, and its Support for Teaching page provides links to departments across the College dedicated to providing faculty with crucial tools related to inclusion, equity, and anti-racism.

The Teaching and Learning Institute offers resources and workshops on syllabus design and pedagogy.

Faculty support for diversity, equity, and inclusion also includes a course release process for junior faculty, as well as tenured and continuing non-tenure track faculty, to free up time for such work.

Many departments have launched their own DEIAR education efforts. Examples and contacts for more information:
