Class of 2018: Nolan Julien

April 20, 2018
Nolan Julien

Post-graduation plans: Nolan was accepted to be a Teach for America 2018 core fellow; she’ll be teaching English at Yes Prep Southside in Houston (which is in her high school district).

Key Bryn Mawr experiences: Nolan came to Bryn Mawr as part of the Posse Scholars program. “Posse really gave me the support system that I didn’t know I would need in college,” she says. “It made me feel like graduating was something that was finally tangible and attainable.”

Major: Sociology and English

What she's taking with her as she prepares to graduate: "Bryn Mawr has taught me to engage with spaces in a new way, given me a deeper appreciation for what spaces are available to me, and how I can use those spaces to understand my own growth and my own identity. … It feels surreal. Going back home means that my relationship with these spaces has obviously changed—I’m in a new role as a teacher, as an educator—and I think it’s really making it clear to me how prepared I am, and also how much I still have to grow, which is both terrifying and exciting but also very fulfilling.”

Hometown: Houston, Texas.
