A newly-recognized mineral has been named for a Bryn Mawr College Geology graduate! The mineral is a type of garnet, and has been named priscillagrewite-Y. The International Mineralogical Association currently recognizes 5,700 mineral species. Only about 100 of them have been named after women; Dr. Grew is the first Bryn Mawr graduate to have a mineral named for her.
The article announcing the new mineral can be found here.
Dr. Grew served as a geologist and professor at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and as Director of the University of Nebraska Museum of Natural History. She has held government positions including Director of the Minnesota Geological Survey.
Congratulations, Dr. Grew!
