Bryn Mawr Byzantanists Present Panel in New York

December 4, 2024

In October, Professor of History of Art Alicia Walker and Charlie Kuper, Ph.D. ’17, who is now an assistant professor of classics at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, co-organized a session for the annual Byzantine Studies Conference that featured papers from eight scholars, including Nava Streiter Ph.D. ‘22, curator of the Yellowstone Gateway Museum, and current Ph.D. candidate Elena Gittleman. The session panels built upon a forthcoming translation of a key eleventh-century Byzantine illustrated menologion (calendar of prayers) that Kuper completed for Dumbarton Oaks.

Event organizers received a much-coveted outside grant from the Mary Jaharis Center for Byzantine Art and Culture to fund the participants' travel expenses.
