History of Art PhD candidate Shannon Steiner will contribute a translation and commentary to a new four-volume series of primary sources, Byzantine Texts on Art and Aesthetics, edited by Drs. Foteini Spingou and Charles Barber of Princeton University and published by Cambridge University Press. The project pairs original textual sources with translations and commentary in order to make these resources more accessible for students of Byzantium. Shannon's entry concerns an alchemical recipe for the transmutation of gold from eggs, written by a prominent 13th-century monk and scholar named Nikephoros Blemmydes.
