Science Instrument Specialist

The Department of Science Support Services seeks a full-time, 12-month Science Instrument Specialist. 

Under the direction of the Director of Science Support Services, this position plays a crucial role in maintaining the College's scientific infrastructure. The Science Instrument Specialist manages analytical instruments and equipment for the College's science departments while providing technical support and training to faculty and students. 

Responsibilities:

·  Oversee analytical instrumentation maintenance and operation

·  Perform regular calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment

·  Provide instrument training and technical support to faculty and students

·  Monitor and maintain temperature monitoring systems across facilities

·  Manage inventory of chemicals and hazardous materials using Quartzy

Qualifications:

·  Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field and 3+ years’ experience with analytical instrumentation

·  Demonstrated proficiency with NMR, GC-MS, and LC-MS systems

·  Demonstrated knowledge of chemical safety and hazardous materials handling

·  Strong technical troubleshooting abilities

·  Valid driver's license

Demonstrated experience working in a laboratory environment, making laboratory solutions and/or experience working with undergraduate students is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to perform duties in labs and storage spaces involving reaching; lifting; packing/unpacking; assembling; loading/unloading lab supplies from benches, tables, and carts; cleaning equipment; storing equipment and supplies in cupboards and on shelves and lab benches.

· Ability to carry 50 pounds over short distances and to travel across campus.

· Visual acuity for instrument maintenance
