Course content varies.; Current topic description: This course explores European communism as a lived experience from the 1930s until the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991. It examines various aspects of life in the socialist Eastern Block ranging from education, youth culture, Communist Party life, law and policing to leisure, consumerism, disability, sex and romance. Beyond looking at how life was lived during communism the course will also ask how life under communism has been remembered, represented, and understood since the end of the Cold War.
