Spring Break Library Internship Where You Get to Buy the Books

posted January 22, 2024

Students Shape the Shelves is a week-long paid internship during spring break (now in its third year) where you can learn about how libraries select their books and have the opportunity to build the BMC library collections, especially for pleasure reading.

Learn from librarians at Bryn Mawr about how books make it to the libraries. Hear from public librarians at Ludington Library how they choose books. This year the cohort of about 6 students will visit three Philly bookstores and learn about the collections they curate and the communities they serve: Uncle Bobbie's Coffee & Books, Julia de Burgos Bookstore at Taller Puertorriqueño, and Big Blue Marble Bookstore. You'll have a budget to select books for Canaday Library you would like your BMC classmates to find and read.

Join us! We're interested in students bringing perspectives from any backgrounds and disciplines. Applications are due on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024.

Find out more here, and email library@brynmawr.edu with any questions.
