Radhika Gupta from Temple University will be giving a talk titled, "Groups as Spaces and Exponential Growth."
Abstract:
In this talk I will start by explaining how to view a group as a metric space via its Cayley graph. We will then count the number of vertices in a ball of radius n in these spaces. We will be particularly interested in groups where this count is exponential, for example free groups. I'll also mention joint work with Thomas Ng and Kasia Jankeiwicz about the exponential growth rate of groups acting on `CAT(0) cube complexes'.
