Career&Civic: What's the Buzz? An Introduction to Beekeeping Session 1

Have you always been fascinated by bees or the idea of trying beekeeping? Join Master Beekeeper Ann Isenberg in this engaging workshop: What's the Buzz? An Introduction to Beekeeping. Honeybees will arrive this May at BMC and will be settling into their new home by the pond all summer. This workshop will provide an important introduction to beekeeping and include information about bees, their health and lifecycle, management of a hive, and apiary skills. Learn about the benefits of bees in our local ecosystem, flight patterns, sting reactions and clothing protection, castes of bees, as well as what bees and beekeepers are doing across seasons.
Can't make this date? Join us on March 28 for a second offering of this workshop. Can't attend either but still interested in connecting with beekeeping? Email Amanda Moser-Shick (amosershic@brynmawr.edu) for more information. About the Beekeeper: Ann Isenberg has been keeping and learning about bees for 15 years. She recently moved to Philadelphia from New Hampshire where bears, electrified fences, and long, snowy winters were a beekeeping reality. Ann is delighted to be establishing an apiary at BMC and excited to mentor students in the science, art, management, and history of beekeeping. Ann is a master beekeeper and recently retired clinical psychologist. Her fascination with bees began at the age of five with some Wisconsin hives owned by her uncle. The joys, seasonally driven tasks, and endless learning of beekeeping are a big part of her life.
