Hybrid (On Campus) Event - Park Science, Park 180
Join us for a discussion with Dr. Rita Charon, a general internist and literary scholar who originated the field of narrative medicine. The event will occur Wednesday, March 27, from 6-7 p.m. in Park 180 (and hybrid via Zoom). We will begin by doing a brief warmup writing reflection, followed by a discussion.
Topics will include:
- How understanding medicine as work that happens in and through stories allows physicians to reapproach patient interactions and build trust with patients
- How future clinicians' creative practices, from writing to art to body movement, could nourish our work in medicine
- How narrative medicine helps foster cultural humility among healthcare providers and builds frameworks for fighting for health justice
This will be a discussion-based event, so please come with any and all questions! We will leave 15-20 minutes at the end of the event for questions.
