Distressing Math Collective with Rosalie Tarsala '23

Abstract:
Clustering is an unsupervised machine learning technique for information discover by dividing raw data into groups. It is one of many machine learning tools found in a data scientist’s toolkit. This talk will introduce the principles of cluster analysis and some motivations for using clustering as a data analysis technique. Two popular clustering algorithms will be mathematically defined and contrasted. Finally, we will conclude with examples of how cluster analysis can be applied to healthcare datasets. This talk is adapted from my master’s dissertation in Data Science and Analytics at Cardiff University.
