Friday Finds with the Curators

Nov 5
2021
12:00pm - 1:00pm
On Campus Event - Canaday Library, Room 205

Join us for a curator's tour of Introducing Ellie Ga.

Introducing Ellie Ga features recent acquisitions by Ellie Ga, an American artist living in Sweden. This physical display continues ongoing efforts to introduce Ga and her artistic practice to the Bryn Mawr community in the face of challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introducing Ellie Ga is on view in the Eva J. Coombe '52 Special Collections Suite on the second floor of Canaday Library beginning Oct. 18. Join curators Matt Feliz (history of art), Carrie Robbins (curator for art and artifacts), and Marianne Hansen (curator for rare books and manuscripts) for an in-person tour.

Plans for Ga’s residency are renewed for the 2022-23 academic year, but remain contingent on pandemic-related protocols. As soon as it is possible, Ga will come to campus to engage with Special Collections in the production of a new work of art commissioned by the College.

Ga works between memoir, travelogue, and visual essay connecting ideas and presenting them as multichannel videos or performances with live narration. Her artistic process involves extended periods of research, including conversations with people in roles, such as museum directors, scholars, or Arctic explorers. Her interests are interdisciplinary and cross-temporal. She speaks of her work as a collection of chance encounters, what is lost (and accrued) in translating between spoken and written words, and archaeological discovery. Her recent work, Gyres 1-3 (2019), was a commission for the Whitney Biennial, where it was reviewed in The New York Times and Artnews.
