Friday Finds: '[Voicings] and Choral Aesthetics'

Apr 21
2023
12:00pm - 1:00pm
On Campus Event - Canaday Library, 1912 Gallery

This event was rescheduled from April 7.

Join History of Art Ph.D. Candidate Laurel V. McLaughlin to explore the choral aesthetics in Bryn Mawr's current exhibition, Bethany Collins: Tempest.

Friday Finds are Special Collections programs that invite you to learn more about the collections and exhibitions at the College. This week's event welcomes Laurel V. McLaughlin to host an informal conversation about the resonances of Bryn Mawr's current exhibition, Bethany Collins: Tempest, with an exhibition she recently organized at Artspace New Haven. That exhibition, [Voicings], wonders about the conditions, capacities, and powers of voices to utter sounds, words, and signs.

McLaughlin will also share new research for a project focused on what she calls "choral aesthetics," drawn from conversations with contemporary artists, art historical research, and her personal and professional experiences in vocal studies. [Voicings], on view at Artspace New Haven through April 15, 2023, features the work of Mira Dayal, Dominique Duroseau, JJJJJerome Ellis, Nikita Gale, Gordon Hall, Amiko Li, Matt Keegan, Christine Sun Kim, Joseph Keckler, and Sahra Motalebi.
