4+1 Master of Bioethics (MBE) Program at Perelman School of Medicine

Qualified Bryn Mawr undergraduates can gain early and expedited admission to a master's degree offered by the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy. Students may apply to the MBE program as an external "sub-matriculate."

  • Bryn Mawr students can submit applications to sub-matriculate in a Penn program no earlier than the end of their fourth semester at Bryn Mawr, once a major at BMC or HC has been declared, and no later than summer prior to the senior year.
  • Students interested in submatriculating for the MBE program, should first talk with the program advisor as early possible.
  • Click here to learn more about BMC submatriculation procedures
  • Once you know that you are eligible to apply for the program and you have decided that you want to apply for it, please this Bryn Mawr Submatriculation Form as you are applying for the Penn MBE program.
  • A reminder to students that once they submatriculate they are limited to Penn courses in their submatriculation department only. A limit of three MBE courses taken as an undergraduate can count towards the MBE.  Those who want to explore other courses at Penn through the Quaker Consortium would find it to their advantage to submatriculate a bit later.
