Network for New Music "Companions"

On Monday, February 24 at 7 p.m., Network for New Music presents its next concert COMPANIONS, honoring Richard Wernick. Centered around Wernick’s "duo" for cello and piano, the program also features new commissions by Ingrid Arauco, David Crumb, Yinam Leef, Philip Maneval, Jay Reise, and one mystery composer (with a close connection to Wernick). These composers were all past students of Wernick, selected by the composer himself to supply new pieces for this concert. Each piece serves as an homage to the legacy of Richard Wernick, drawing inspiration from his "duo" as well as his rich musical personality to create six loving portraits of this esteemed teacher and composer. Thomas Kraines will perform these pieces on cello and Charles Abramovic on piano. The concert will also include the premiere of commissioned works by two composers with local ties - Philadelphia-based TJ Cole and Mt. Airy native Eliza Brown. Haverford College, Michael Jaharis Recital Hall, free and open to the public.
