Teach-In: Continuing History: A Year After the Bryn Mawr Strike

Nov 19
2021
11:30am - 6:30pm
On Campus Event - Old Library, Great Hall
""

To contextualize and memorialize the strike that occurred in the fall of 2020 on Bryn Mawr’s campus, we have organized an art exhibit/experience. Opening remarks at noon. Final showing at 6 p.m.

The art exhibit/experience will be a chance for the community to share the various narratives, reactions, experiences, and memories around the strike. We also host a space for discussion on next steps: how we can progress with the strike in mind, and the work that is already being done or has already been done by the institution of Bryn Mawr College.

We invite students, alums, faculty, and staff alike to create and share their narrative, reactions, experiences, and memories around the strike. This can take form through a performance piece, a visual piece, and/or a response piece. Both the performance and visual pieces will require the submission of a proposal prior to the event; please submit your proposal here, and we will review it as soon as possible. Proposals will be accepted and reviewed until Saturday, Nov. 13, at noon. There will also be opportunities on November 19 to engage with the exhibit through visual and written pieces.

This teach-in was created by members of the student group working to create a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion/Anti-Racism requirement for the College, in accordance with strike demand #2. We created the teach-in as part of the community outreach portion of our independent study, in order to connect with the Bryn Mawr community one year after the strike. We understand and respect that not all members of the current Bryn Mawr campus community were present for the strike, and that members of the Bryn Mawr campus community have left in the year since the strike. We want to work to create an institutional memory surrounding this strike, and to respect the work that has been done by people who are no longer on this campus.

Facilitated by Aaniyah Alexander '25, Nisha Marino '24, and Van Nguyen '24.
