Teach-in: Political Horizons in Palestine in Discussion with Nathaniel Shils
Join us in discussion with Prof. Shils of the political science department to talk about the history and changes in the Palestinian movement for justice. All are welcome!
Over the past two decades, the prospects for a negotiated “two-state solution” in Israel/Palestine have plummeted and many astute analysts, activists, and political figures now declare that sustainable Palestinian statehood in the West Bank and Gaza is “impossible.” As this project of liberation has collapsed, the national movement has been plunged into crisis. How should we understand this historical juncture and the crises facing the Palestinian national movement today? What alternative visions of self-determination are replacing the “two-state solution” of the past and what political forces are driving (and resisting) them? Why has the language of apartheid become more common as a description of the political situation in Israel/Palestine? What roles are solidarity movements, especially Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS), playing in the current situation? How can we think constructively about prospects for change?
