Job Opportunity: ACT/PWHS Tutoring

Do you like teaching and mentoring? Are you looking for a federal work study opportunity? Civic Engagement is hiring for two tutoring programs! Paid positions are available for students with federal work-study in the following programs:

ACT/PWHS Tutoring

Tutors in our community based tutoring programs are needed for the following shifts:

ACT--Ardmore Community Tutoring

  • Tuesdays, 4:30 - 6 pm
  • Thursdays, 4:30 - 6 pm

Students who tutor with ACT are matched in one-on-one tutoring partnerships with local children in grades K-12.  Tutors meet with the same tutee each week during the semester, providing homework help and academic enrichment.  Tutoring takes place at Zion Baptist Church in Ardmore and tutors travel together in a BMC van to and from their tutoring shifts.

Tutors are paid $10/hr and work 3 - 6 hours per week.

PWHS--Parkway West High School Tutoring

  • Tuesdays, 9 - 11:30 am
  • Wednesdays, 9 - 11:30 am

Students who tutor with PWHS are placed in a 9th grade math classroom to offer supplemental instruction to struggling students during class time.  With support and direction from the classroom teacher, tutors may work one-on-one or in small groups with students.  Parkway West High School is located in West Philadelphia.  Tutors travel to and from PWHS together in a BMC van.  Tutors are paid $10/hr and work 2.5 - 5 hours per week.
