The below message was sent to faculty and staff on March 6, 2025.

Dear faculty and staff colleagues:

Please join me in welcoming Christopher Barth as our next Chief Information Officer and Constance A. Jones Director of Libraries. He will join the Bryn Mawr College community on May 12 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he has served as Associate Dean and Director of Libraries and Archives since 2011.

Under his leadership at West Point, Christopher managed three library facilities and coordinated library and archival operations while implementing a strategic vision for academic information support. He oversaw the $50M+ renovation of a new dedicated Archives and Special Collections facility. He also taught as an instructor in the American History division while chairing the Academy’s Information Technology Strategy Committee.

Before arriving at West Point, Christopher served in library and technology leadership positions at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. At these institutions, he gained significant experience working in merged library and technology organizations in higher education. He served for five years as the chief information officer at Luther College, responsible for coordinating all strategic enterprise information support to the institution.

Christopher holds graduate degrees in Library and Information Science and History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kenyon College with High Honors in History. He is a member of the American Library Association and the Association of College and Research Libraries. He has served on the faculty of the Archives Leadership Institute, sponsored by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, served as a lecturer in the School of Information at San José State University, and served as Council Chair and Board Member of ConnectNY, a New York state consortium of academic libraries.

I extend my thanks to the search committee and especially chairs Tim Harte, Provost and Professor of Russian, and Dianna Xu, Chair and Professor of Computer Science. Other members of the committee included Amy Berry, Assistant Controller for Receivables; Shannon Kearns, Chief of Staff; Min Kyung Lee, Chair and Associate Professor of Growth and Structure of Cities; Amy Loftus ‘90, Vice Chair, Board of Trustees; Lori Perine ‘80, Member, Board of Trustees; Marc Schulz, Professor of Psychology & Program Director of Data Science; and Samara Sit, Chief Communications Officer.

Finally, thank you to Jenny Spohrer, who has been acting CIO and Constance A. Jones Director of Libraries since January. She will continue in the role until Christopher’s arrival.
