January 21 Update from the President

January 21, 2025

The below message was sent to faculty, staff, and students on January 21, 2025.

Dear Bryn Mawr College Community,

Welcome to the (chilly) spring semester. This month has been quiet without students, and I look forward to all we will learn together in the coming weeks! As classes start, please remember that the new Testing Center is open, as are new classrooms in Park where the Physics Department and the Health Professions Advising Office are in their new spaces. The final policy on Peaceful Protests and Demonstrations (previously called Time, Place, Manner) is in place, and I look forward to thinking with the faculty about next steps at the faculty meeting later this month.

Like our students, I am in learning mode and hope to see you at the Town Hall on Monday, January 27, at 4 p.m. in the Great Hall. I will share preliminary thoughts on the College’s next chapter (hint: it helps to think about it like a garden), and your thoughts and feedback will enable us to continue learning together. Members of the faculty will lead us in thinking about related themes in the Current Topics in Higher Education lunch sessions, including:

Bryn Mawr’s Place in the Liberal Arts of the Future (January 28)
Public Scholarship and Teaching at Bryn Mawr and Beyond (February 19)
A Workshop on Permutations in a Bryn Mawr Education (April 4)

The start of the new semester also brings several new faces and roles. Joining the senior leadership team are:

Samir Datta, Vice President of Finance and Administration (starting March 3)
Tomiko Jenkins and Katie Krimmel, Acting Co-Deans, Undergraduate College Division
Jenny Spohrer, Interim Chief Information Officer and Director of Libraries

Shannon Kearns has a new title as my Chief of Staff.

I look forward to our learning and growing together in the coming months.

Welcome to the “spring” semester - Stay warm!

Wendy
