March Update from the President

March 3, 2025

The below message was sent to faculty, staff, and students on March 3, 2025.

Dear Bryn Mawr Community,

Much is in motion in the greater higher education and policy landscape. I write with the assurance that your senior team is fully aware of and actively tracking developments. The College’s mission statement is the bright, clear north star that guides us. We are grateful for your collaboration as we continue to support one another, come together for all-campus gatherings, celebrate the vital teaching and research for which Bryn Mawr is known, and honor the enduring values on which the College is grounded.

Now more than ever, as external pressures try to disrupt the core principles on which colleges and universities are founded, a shared understanding of Bryn Mawr’s decision-making and governance structures is key. To that end, please take a few minutes to read this excerpt from Shared Governance for Agile Institutions: A Practical Guide for Colleges and Universities, distributed by the Association of Governing Boards. The Board of Trustees read and discussed this excerpt at its February meeting, and I hope to make it a focus of conversation across campus in the coming weeks as we continue to deepen our awareness and appreciation of the College’s place in the broader higher education ecosystem.

Thank you to:

  • The nearly 400 undergraduate, Post-Bac, and graduate students who completed the Start/Stop/Continue survey. I will share what we learn next month.

A warm welcome to Samir Datta, who starts today as our Vice President for Finance & Administration. His office is on the third floor of Taylor Hall, and he will be out meeting many of you in the coming weeks.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar and plan to attend or participate in the first Bryn Mawr’s Got Talent event on Thursday, March 27th, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sign up to participate today!

As always,

Wendy
