New Tri-Co Social Sciences Colloquium Has Debut Event on Nov. 2

Social scientists from Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore have come together for The Tri-Co Social Sciences Colloquium.

The new colloquium series debuts at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, at Haverford College Hall, room 107, with "Welcome to One Percent: Aspirational Taste in Colombia," a talk by Bryn Mawr College Associate Professor of Anthropology Sussanna Firoatta.

"The colloquium aims to provide a space in which innovative and inspiring research is presented by and to social scientists of the Tri-Co," says Assistant Professor of Political Science Aytuğ Şaşmaz, who is on the Bryn Mawr steering committee for the series along with Assistant Professor of Computer Science Adam Poliak and Assistant Professor of Sociology Nora Taplin-Kaguru. "In the first three talks, professors from each one of the three colleges present their research at one of the other colleges. The year will be concluded by an outside speaker, renowned political scientist Kathleen Thelen, presenting at Friends Center in Philadelphia, a space frequently used for Tri-Co events."
