Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
I write to share the news that Tim Harte, Provost and Professor of Russian, will conclude his five-year term as Provost on June 30, 2025. He will be on sabbatical during the 2025-26 academic year, after which he plans to return to the faculty. I am deeply grateful for Tim’s guidance, wise counsel, and sense of humor this year, and I wish him rest and rejuvenation in this transition.
David Karen, Professor of Sociology, will serve as interim Provost from July 1 through December 31, 2025, during which time we will conduct a search for the College’s next Provost. I will write to the Committee on Nominations today, asking them to form a search committee as outlined in the Plan of Governance and Faculty By-Laws. I will also meet with the Committee on Appointments, the Committee for Academic Priorities, and the Faculty Advisory Council in the next few weeks to review a search plan and job description.
At the final Faculty Happy Hour of the semester, we will thank Tim for his service as provost as well as Xuemei (May) Cheng for her service as dean of graduate studies. The event will take place on Friday, May 2, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the President’s House. Please plan to attend (with your partners and/or children) to thank Tim and May in person and celebrate the end of the semester.
Gratefully,
Wendy
