Dear Bryn Mawr Community,
We hope you had a restful winter break and feel renewed as the spring semester begins.
In response to some on-campus thefts during the fall semester, we wanted to remind everyone of their role in helping to maintain our campus's safety and security. Not unique to our community, theft is the most common crime on college campuses because it is a crime of opportunity. While the Honor Code is an integral part of the Bryn Mawr College culture, we are not without the occasional act of misconduct on campus. Additionally, Bryn Mawr College’s relationships with the local community and other collegiate institutions open our campus up to a variety of visitors.
There are steps we can all take to support a safer community at Bryn Mawr:
- Lock your doors when you leave your room.
- Do not leave items unattended in common or public spaces.
- Be mindful of “piggybacking” in residential spaces. Do not hold the door open, assuming that someone has access to the building or belongs there.
- Maintain situational awareness by being present, observant of your surroundings, and avoiding distractions from your phone or ear buds as you travel to and from locations.
- If you see something, say something. If something appears unusual, trust your gut and call Campus Safety at 610-526-7911.
There are many reasons why someone may perform an act of theft. As a college, we are committed to supporting all individuals involved and impacted by these occurrences.
Campus Safety is here as a partner in your safety and security. For Campus Safety to assist you regarding a theft or other crime, we need to know that the incident occurred. Calling Campus Safety is the fastest way to alert us to a concern. Non-urgent matters can now be reported through Campus Safety’s new reporting form.
