Choom Boom: Bryn Mawr's Kpop Student Dance Group

September 21, 2017 By Makenna Lenover '19

Choom Boom, Bryn Mawr's Kpop Dance group, merges a multitude of music and dance genres, like pop, R&B, and rock, into Kpop dance pieces. Every piece is different due to the unique blended nature of Kpop music. Every member has their own preferences, but Han Truong, a member for three years, says "Most of what makes Kpop fun is that each songs focuses on a few key dance moves or choreography that matches the characteristics or lyrics on the song, so whenever the songs comes on, we Choom Boom members just bust out the moves!"

Choom Boom is growing stronger as a club, with multiple performance opportunities throughout the year, like the ASA Culture Show and the Fall Student Dance Concert. Since the group is student run, each member has the freedom to participate as much or as little as they wish.

Interested students can easily join in on the fun since Choom Boom is a non-audition group and host weekly dance sessions on Fridays, 7-8 p.m. in the Denbigh Dance Studio. No dancing skills are required, just a desire to learn and try!

"Choom Boom is for anyone who simply enjoys dancing to Kpop songs, making new friends and sharing Kpop moments together," says Han. In addition to the weekly dance sessions, students can try out to perform in one of their prescheduled pieces, like the Fall Student Dance Concert.

To learn more about joining or upcoming performances, students can visit the group's social media pages or contact Choom Boom co-presidents Jie Gao or Victoria Tamura.
