Understanding the Increase in Suicide Rate for Teen Girls

August 9, 2017

Assistant Professor of Social Work Carolina Hausmann-Stabile is among the experts quoted in the WHYY NewsWorks piece "Suicide Rate for Teen Girls Rises Dramatically."

From the piece:

The higher number could be, in part, due to medical examiners and coroners ruling more deaths suicide, said Carolina Hausmann-Stabile, a mental health researcher at Bryn Mawr College. In the past, they might have labeled a death accidental due to stigma and a desire to protect families.

Hausmann-Stabile has more than a decade of experience studying health and mental health disparities among Latinos in the U.S. and Latin America, with a focus on girls' suicidal behaviors.
