Biography

Akirah attended Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Media studies with minors in Psychology and Theater Arts. At Rutgers, Akirah discovered her passion for students while serving as a Resident Assistant. The experience was the springboard into her higher education career. Akirah graduated from Shippensburg University with a Master of Science degree in College Student Personnel and served as a Residence Hall Director. She worked in housing and residence life for ten years before transitioning to academic support.

Akirah is a certified Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) instructor and a True Colors facilitator, where she can work with teams to discover how they can use their true colors spectrum and dynamic keys to unlock their success. She currently serves as the Chair, for New Jersey ACE Women's Network, whose mission is to identify, develop, encourage, support, link and help advance women in higher education. She is the senior class dean and supports students through the thesis/capstone process and preparation for graduation and beyond. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and traveling.
