Dr. Janet Eisenberg Shapiro, Dean of the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, Professor of Social Work, and Co-Director of the Center for Child and Family Wellbeing, will be one of the plenary speakers at the Symposium on Child Well-Being in Pennsylvania and the Urgent Need for Father Involvement. The event will be hosted by The Strong Families Commission and is sponsored by numerous Legislators including Senator Anthony Hardy Williams of Philadelphia, Senator Patrick M. Browne of Lehigh County, Representative Edward C. Gainey of Pittsburgh, and Representative Harold A. English of Allegheny County. The symposium highlights the importance of dual parent families: the "NFI [National Fatherhood Institute] believes 'father-absence' is a major impediment to the well-being of children and families in America".

The Symposium will take place on September 27th, 2017.
