Scott Lecture Series

ATTENTION ATTENDEES: Due to weather conditions, this event was rescheduled from March 14th to April 25, 2017. We look forward to seeing you there!

Following the success of Paper Tigers, the fall event in the Scott Lecture Series, The Center for Child and Family Wellbeing welcomes you back for the spring semester! The second lecture in the series, titled "From the Courtroom to the Community: Youth Charged as Adults in Pennsylvania", features speakers Lauren Fine and Joanna Visser Adjoian, Co-Directors of the Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project (YSRP).

"The Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project works to transform the experiences of children prosecuted in the adult criminal justice system and to ensure them fair and thoughtful resentencing and reentry. Our ultimate goals are to keep children out of adult jails and prisons and to enhance the quality of representation juvenile lifers receive at resentencing and at reentry into the community."

OUR MISSIONThe Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project (YSRP) uses direct service and policy advocacy to transform the experiences of children prosecuted in the adult criminal justice system, and to ensure fair and thoughtful resentencing and reentry for individuals who were sentenced to life without parole as children (“juvenile lifers”). We partner with court-involved youth and juvenile lifers, their families, and lawyers to develop holistic, humanizing narratives that mitigate the facts of each case; get cases transferred to the juvenile system or resentenced; and make crucial connections to community resources providing education, healthcare, housing, and employment. We also provide trainings on mitigation, and recruit, train and supervise students and other volunteers to assist in this work. Our ultimate goals are to keep children out of adult jails and prisons and to enhance the quality of representation juvenile lifers receive at resentencing, and as they prepare to reenter the community.

The YSRP Scott Lecture will take place from 7-9 pm in the Ely Room in Wyndham on April 25, 2017.

This event is free and open to the public, but as seating is limited please RSVP to (610) 520-2605 or childandfamily@brynmawr.edu no later than April 18, 2017.
