This interactive session will focus on suicide prevention for adolescents and what we can do to recognize and support adolescents who are struggling. The session will examine warning signs and indicators of the adolescent struggling with suicide as well as protective factors and coping strategies. Focus and discussion will also be on how therapists/counselors can work with schools to support students. A brief review of what schools are doing in Chester County will also be presented. Case situations, videos, lecture, discussions and small group activities will all be utilized as teaching methods.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to 1) identify four risk factors of suicide, 2) explain the four warning signs of suicide, 3) describe the four protective factors of suicide prevention; and 4) state four ways to support the adolescent struggling with suicide.

This workshop is appropriate for all levels of practice in all practice settings.
