Crises situations occur in all our lives. As practitioners, we must be equipped to help our clients develop ways to understand their crisis situations and identify strategies to help them cope. To be effective, practitioners must understand the nature of crisis, models that inform practice and the characteristics required to be an effective crisis worker.

Understanding Crisis Intervention program will infuse various modalities to include lecture, discussion, and small group work.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to: 1) Define crisis including: the characteristics of crisis and applied crisis domains; 2) Identify the models and theories that inform crisis intervention; 3) List and define the types of crises that practitioners commonly encounter; 4) Practice and implement knowledge using case study with an emphasis on cultural awareness; and 5) Understand the characteristics required to be an effective crisis worker.

This program is appropriate for all levels of social work professionals.

Presenter: Dr. Terrilynn Hickman-Allen, L.C.S.W.
