For Students
If you need assistance, please fill out the Service Request Form at the bottom of the page.
If you have an EMERGENCY (e.g., no power, leaks, clogged/overflowing toilet), please call Facilities Services at x7930, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. After hours and on weekends, please call Campus Security at x7911 and they will dispatch someone to respond to the emergency.
By requesting services through the Service Request Form you are granting Facilities Services personnel permission to enter the room/space without the occupant present. If you wish to be present, please contact x7930 Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 5 p.m. to discuss scheduling the work.
At times, College personnel may be required to enter a room/space as part of the process of solving a facilities issue that affects all or part of the building. If a room/space must be entered without advance knowledge (e.g., a burst pipe during winter break), a note will be left. The note will state that the room was entered, by whom and for what reason.
Frequently Asked Questions
Students are not allowed to paint their dorm rooms. If rooms are painted, the fine will be between $75 and $250. See our Room Condition Survey Form for more information about do's and don'ts in your room.
Please never use nails, tacks, screws, duct, masking or scotch tape on any walls or doors. We strongly encourage you to use products similar to the 3M Command Strips and hangers. When properly mounted and removed, these types of products work the best and do not damage the wall surface. Our Bookshop offers these products to help with your move in.
The College provides each student with a bed, dresser (or a Captain's bed), desk, and chair. All the furniture must stay in the room. If you’re not sure how to arrange it, ask a member of the DLT, any returning student or your housekeeper. They’ve seen some of the best ideas over the years.
Open flames create a potential fire hazard, so lighting candles, within our dormitories, is prohibited. All rooms have smoke detectors and some have sprinkler heads. The sprinkler heads should never be used for hanging any items in your room or the hallways.
Contact your housekeeper. If the housekeeper cannot replace the light, then they will contact Facilities Services for assistance.
If the leak is active and significant, call Facilities Services at 610-526-7930 (after hours - Campus Safety 610-526-7911). If the leak is minor or not presently active, you can fill out the Service Request Form. We will issue a work-order and one of our carpenters will respond.
You will need to contact Campus Safety (x7911). If your key has been stolen or lost, fill out the Service Request Form. The locksmith will recore your lock and issue new keys. The fine for recoring a room lock is $50. If you have lost your OneCard, notify Campus Safety and contact the OneCard Office.
Heat will be turned on across campus once we are experiencing sustained nighttime temperatures of 40°F or less with predicted continuing trends in that range. This is a guideline that will be used along with common sense dictated by specific weather patterns and operational necessity. Even during the heating season, any time the outside air temperature is above 60°F, the main heating valves will shut off automatically. This means that the heat is essentially “off” when the outside temperature reaches 60°F.
If your room is too hot during warmer weather, the only recourse is to open a window or turn on a fan. If your room is too hot or too cold in the winter, fill out the Service Request Form. When a "too hot" or "too cold" service request is received, the mechanic assigned to that building will respond and investigate the concern. Every call during business hours (M-F 7a-5p) will be responded to the same day. Complaints received off-hours will be handled the next business day. In the event that the entire building is experiencing heating issues off-hours, you should contact Campus Safety (x7911), who will dispatch a mechanic through the On-Call system. Please see the How My Heat Works page for your dorm. There are valuable instructions on your dorm room’s specific heating system and how to operate it.
The following conservation policies are in effect with the dual purpose of reducing both our operating expenses and carbon footprint:
-
The target temperature range for all spaces during the heating season is 67-69°F.
-
Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday during the heating season, the target temperature range in all dorms will be set back to 65-67°F.
-
The use of electric personal space heaters on campus is not permitted. Any exceptions to this policy must be requested through and approved by Facilities Services.
